Riga, Latvia is a beautiful town, still being rebuilt from its rugged past. Most of the important buildings are being refurbished for their celebration of independence next year.
This is their second go round of independence. During the first run, what was known as the USSR took over. During these times, people lived their lives while being scared of exile.
Once they regained their independence, people gather the streets and celebrate and sing in front of the monument in the square. Unfortunately, the statue was covered in scaffolding for repairs. It is scheduled to reopen for the celebration.
Riga is a beautiful city and I would highly recommend anyone to visit.
